Bactrosaurus: an early hadrosauroid from the Late Cretaceous

Bactrosaurus was a plant-eating hadrosauroid from the Late Cretaceous Gobi Desert of China, about 6 m long. Notable for its primitive duckbill features and an unusually high incidence of bone tumors in fossil specimens.

Bactrosaurus is a genus of small-to-medium ornithopod dinosaurs that lived during the Late Cretaceous. It is typically considered a basal member of the group related to the duck-billed hadrosaurs. Physical characteristics

Bactrosaurus was relatively modest in size compared with later giant hadrosaurs. Adult estimates place it at about 6 metres (around 20 feet) in length and roughly 2 metres tall when on all fours, with a mass on the order of one to one-and-a-half tonnes. Its skull and jaws display adaptations for processing vegetation, and its limbs indicate it could move both on two legs and on all fours.
