Asyut Governorate

Asyut (Arabic محافظة أسيوط Muhāfazat Asyūt, DMG Muḥāfaẓat Asyūṭ) is a governorate in Egypt with a population of 4,383,289, located in central Egypt.

It is bordered on the north by the al-Minya governorate, on the east by the Red Sea governorate, on the south by the Sauhaj governorate, and on the west by the al-Wadi al-Jadid governorate. The eastern part of the governorate extends into the Arabian Desert. The administrative center is Asyut.

There are eleven cities in the Asyūṭ Governorate, which are also administrative centers of the districts of the same name:

• Manfalut (Arab. منفلوط, Manfalūṭ).
• Abu Tig (also Abutig, Arab. ابو تيج, Abū Tīǧ).
• Sidfa (also Sedfa, Arab. صدفا, Ṣidfā)
• el-Ghanayim (Arab. الغنايم, al-Ghanāyīm)
• Abnob (Arab. أبنوب, Abnūb).
• al-Fatih (also el-Fatih, Arab. الفتح, al-Fatiḥ)
• Sahil Salim (also Sahil Saleem, Arab. ساحل سليم, Sāḥil Salīm).
• al-Badari (Arab. البداري, al-Badārī)
