Al-Qahira (Arabic محافظة القاهرة Muhāfazat al-Qāhira, DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Qāhira, Egyptian Arabic Muḥāfẓet El Qahira), also Cairo, is a governorate in Egypt with a population of 9,539,673.

It borders the governorates of al-Qalyubiyya and ash-Sharqiyya to the north, the governorates of al-Ismaʿiliyya and as-Suwais to the east, and the governorate of al-Jiza to the south and west. The governorate includes the Cairo city center and the Cairo Old City on the east bank of the Nile; while the neighborhoods west of the Nile belong to the governorate of al-Jiza. The eastern part of the governorate extends into the Arabian Desert. The administrative center is Cairo.
