Al-Iskandariyya (Arabic محافظة الإسكندرية Muhāfazat al-Iskandariyya, DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Iskandariyya, Egyptian Arabic Muḥāfẓet El Eskenderiya), also Alexandria, is a governorate in Egypt with 5.163,750 inhabitants and is located on the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the three city governorates of the country, along with Cairo (القاهرة - al-Qāhira) and Giza (الجيزة - al-Ǧīza). The seat of the governorate is Alexandria.
It borders the Mediterranean Sea to the north, al-Buhaira Governorate to the east, and Matruh Governorate to the west.
