Personal life and death

Pekar was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and spent much of his life in that region. He faced health challenges including prostate cancer and episodes of clinical depression. He died at age 70 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Reports indicated his death was an accidental overdose involving antidepressants, specifically fluoxetine and bupropion.
