Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper song)

Time After Time is a song by Cyndi Lauper, first released on her late 1983 album She's So Unusual. The track was released as a single in March 1984.

History

In 2006, Lauper recounted how the song came to be in an interview with Sound Off with Matt Pinfield on HDNet. Lauper and Rob Hyman of the band The Hooters composed the song together in the recording studio. During the studio recording of the song, Hyman took over the second voice in the chorus.

The B-side of the single release from the album features the track I'll Kiss You. The ballad, produced by Rick Chertoff, was nominated for the 1985 Grammy Awards.

In the U.S., Time After Time reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks - from June 9 to June 16, 1984. The song also topped the charts in Canada, and in Germany, the song was number six for four weeks.

Music video

The music video is about a woman who leaves her lover. At the beginning of the video, Lauper is seen watching the feature film The Garden of Allah, after which the music kicks in and Lauper is seen leaving a train station building. In the video clip, Cyndi Lauper's biological mother, her brother, her partner David Wolf, and Lou Albano, who also appeared in the video for Girls Just Want to Have Fun, appeared. The video was directed by Edd Griles. Portions of the video were shot at Tom's Restaurant, an eatery at the intersection of Central Avenue and Main Street in Wharton, New Jersey, and at the Morristown train station.
