Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Girls Just Want to Have Fun is a 1983 pop song by Cyndi Lauper that appeared on the album She's So Unusual. The song was written by Robert Hazard in 1979. In Lauper's version, Hazard's lyrics were changed to be presented from a female perspective.

The single off the track went silver in the UK, gold in Japan, platinum in the US and double platinum in Canada.

The song can be heard in the episode Legends of the Mall by Daria and in the episode Freaks & Geeks by Drawn Together. In 1994, (Hey Now) Girls Just Want to Have Fun, a reggae version of the song sung by Lauper, was released.

Music video

The music video was shot in the summer of 1983. The father in the video was played by Lou Albano, Lauper's mother by her biological mother Cathrine Dominique Lauper. The dance partner was portrayed by Lauper's lawyer Elliot Hoffman, and musician Steve Forbert plays her boyfriend.
