Talipot palm (Corypha umbraculifera)
Corypha umbraculifera, the talipot palm, is a giant fan palm of South and Southeast Asia, noted for enormous palmate leaves, the largest inflorescence of any plant, and a single terminal flowering followed by death.

Corypha umbraculifera is native to parts of South and Southeast Asia. Natural populations are found in eastern and southern India (India) and Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka), and it occurs more widely across mainland Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand. It also grows on the Andaman Islands, where suitable lowland, monsoon-influenced habitats exist. The species is cultivated in other tropical regions as an ornamental or for local uses.
Physical characteristics
The talipot palm is characterized by a single, stout trunk topped by a crown of very large palmate leaves. Leaves may reach several metres in diameter and are borne on long petioles. Mature palms may attain tree-like heights and have substantial trunk diameters. The crown architecture and the enormous size of individual leaves give the plant a distinctive, architectural appearance in the landscape.
