Peter Leslie Carter (19 November 1956 – 2 September 2014) was a British career diplomat who represented the United Kingdom at senior posts in Europe and Africa. He is best known for his service as Her Majesty's Ambassador to Estonia from 2007 to 2012 and for his final appointment as Deputy High Commissioner in Nigeria, where he served from 2012 until his death in 2014. Education and early life
Carter was born in London and educated at The Skinners' School in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Peter Carter died suddenly from a heart attack on 2 September 2014 in Lagos after arriving at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. He had landed from Houston in Texas, United States.
