Overview

Copper(I) acetylide is an inorganic substance often called cuprous acetylide. It has the formula Cu2C2 and is classified as a chemical compound.

Composition

The material is formed from copper atoms together with carbon–carbon units derived from an acetylide group. The metal component is copper in the +1 oxidation state, while the carbon fragment appears as an acetylide species that behaves like anionic ions.

Notes on structure and handling

  • Because of its composition, the compound exhibits properties typical of metal–carbon bonded salts.
  • As with many acetylide-containing materials, precautions are appropriate when preparing or storing the substance.
