River Aire (Yorkshire, England)

Course and main places

The Aire rises near the village of Malham in the Yorkshire Dales and travels generally eastwards. It passes through three modern counties: North Yorkshire, predominantly West Yorkshire, and into the East Riding of Yorkshire as it approaches the Humber basin. Much of the lower Aire is canalised or improved for navigation and flood control.
