Parliamentary career

Prud'homme entered federal politics in 1963 and served continuously in the House of Commons until 1993. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Saint-Denis and during that period was affiliated with the Liberal Party. His three decades in the Commons covered multiple Parliaments and a range of domestic and international debates.

After leaving the House of Commons, Prud'homme continued in federal public life as a member of the Senate of Canada, representing the senatorial division of La Salle, Quebec, from 1993 until his resignation in 2009.
