Flor-de-Lis
Flor-de-Lis is a band from Portugal. The musicians represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow in 2009.
Band History
The group Flor-de-Lis, founded in 2004, consists of the members Daniela Varela (vocals), Paulo Pereira (wind instruments), José Camacho (guitar, Portuguese guitar), Jorge Marques (guitar, cavaquinho), Ana Sofia Campeã (accordion), Rolando Amaral (bass) and Pedro Marques (drums). In their repertoire, the musicians combine Portuguese folk music with modern pop music. In addition, influences of Latin American and African music can be found in their songs.
In 2009, Flor-de-Lis took part in the Portuguese music festival Festival da Canção, which also serves as a national preliminary to the Eurovision Song Contest, with one of an initial 24 entries selected by a jury. At the final on 27 February 2009 in Lisbon's Teatro Camões, they won the national final of the last twelve participants with the song Todas as ruas do amor (German: "All the roads of love"). Half of the voting was based on a jury decision and half on televoting by Portuguese television viewers. The band qualified their song for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 on 14 May 2009 at the second semi-final in the Olimpijski Arena in Moscow, in comparison with 18 other musical performances. There they finished 15th in the victory of the Norwegian Alexander Rybak.
