Epigynum: the external female genital structure of spiders

Epigynum (plural epigyna) is the external reproductive aperture on female spiders. It receives sperm from the male's pedipalps and leads to internal storage organs used for later fertilization.

It appears on the underside of the abdomen near the epigastric furrow and forms the visible interface used during mating.
