Chanéaz — former Vaud municipality merged into Montanaire

Geography and character

The village occupied a modest footprint in a gently rolling landscape common to the Vaud plateau. Local buildings reflected regional rural architecture, and community life revolved around farming, local roads and shared public spaces. Despite its size, Chanéaz maintained its own local identity and municipal organization until the early 2010s.

History and administrative change

Like many small municipalities in Switzerland, Chanéaz faced pressures related to administrative costs, demographic change and the need for efficient local services. To address these concerns, Chanéaz joined a voluntary municipal consolidation that took effect on 1 January 2013. On that date it merged with a group of neighbouring communes to create the new municipality of Montanaire.
