Overview
Peyres-Possens was a small, formerly autonomous municipality in the district of Gros-de-Vaud within the canton of Vaud, in Switzerland. Its settlement pattern and local buildings reflected the typical scale and structure of north‑western Swiss countryside communities.

The locality occupied a modest footprint in a predominantly agricultural area, with open fields, pastures and small woodland patches nearby. Roads connected the village to neighbouring communities and regional centres, providing access for commuting, markets and public services. The landscape and land use patterns were characteristic of the Gros-de-Vaud plain.
History and development
While specific historical records for the village vary, Peyres-Possens shared the common development trajectory of rural Vaud settlements: long-term agricultural use, gradual infrastructural improvements in the 19th and 20th centuries, and evolving municipal responsibilities such as local planning and basic services. Over time demographic and administrative pressures encouraged closer cooperation with adjacent communes.
Merger into Montanaire
On 1 January 2013 Peyres-Possens ceased to exist as an independent municipality when it joined a voluntary consolidation with neighbouring communes to create the new municipality of Montanaire. The full list of former municipalities that merged is often cited in records and local accounts:
- Chanéaz
- Chapelle-sur-Moudon
- Correvon
- Denezy
- Martherenges
- Neyruz-sur-Moudon

Significance and present status
The merger was part of a broader trend in Switzerland toward municipal consolidation to improve administrative efficiency, share services and plan regionally. Today the area that was Peyres-Possens is administered within Montanaire, where local identity persists in village life, community associations and heritage, while governance, schooling and many public functions operate at the larger municipal level.
