Saint-Cierges — former municipality in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland
Saint-Cierges was a small French-speaking municipality in the Gros-de-Vaud area of canton Vaud, Switzerland. In 2013 it merged with neighboring communes to form the municipality of Montanaire.
Saint-Cierges was a small, rural municipality located in the Gros-de-Vaud district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. Its population and territory were typical of many village communes in the Swiss plateau: predominantly French-speaking, centered on a village core with agricultural land and local roads connecting to nearby towns. Geography and characteristics
The village lay within the gentle agricultural landscapes of Gros-de-Vaud, a region known for cereal cultivation, pastures and small woodlands. 2013 merger and Montanaire
On 1 January 2013 Saint-Cierges merged with the neighboring municipalities of Chanéaz, Chapelle-sur-Moudon, Correvon, Denezy, Martherenges, Neyruz-sur-Moudon, Peyres-Possens and Thierrens to form the new commune of Montanaire. This consolidation was part of a wider trend in Switzerland to combine small communes for more efficient administration, pooled services and stronger local governance. The new municipality brought together the former communal councils, records and local services under a single municipal structure.
Local importance and distinctions
Although small, Saint-Cierges contributed to the cultural fabric of the region through local traditions, rural architecture and community events typical of Vaud villages. Its integration into Montanaire aimed to preserve local identity while improving capacities for planning, schooling and public works across a larger area.
