In the late 1980s and early 1990s Brickhouse Brown was a regular presence in southern territories. He traveled to Memphis, Tennessee in March 1987 to compete for the Championship Wrestling Association, a hotbed for character-driven, televised wrestling during that period. Memphis and similar regional promotions emphasized personality and crowd reaction, and Brown’s combination of charisma, size, and showmanship made him a reliable draw as a heel.

Brown’s in-ring style blended power moves and brawling tactics suited to the lively, sometimes chaotic matches common in regional television arenas.
