Remig Stumpf (25 March 1966 – 14 May 2019) was a German road and track cyclist who competed internationally in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Born in Schweinfurt, he took part in the 1988 Olympic Games and later won several notable races on the European calendar.

Cycling career

Stumpf represented his country at the 1988 Summer Olympics, where he finished sixth in the 100 km team time trial and 14th in the individual road race. As an amateur and professional racer he recorded a number of victories and podium finishes across stage races, one-day events and track competitions.

Notable results

  • 1986 – Winner of the Tour of Berlin, and triumphs in the German one-day races Rund um Köln and Rund um Düren.
  • 1989 – Third place overall in the Kellogg's Tour of Britain.
  • 1992 and 1993 – Winner of the six-day race in Cologne, a prominent track endurance event.

Personal life and death

Stumpf was a father of four. On 14 May 2019, in Bergrheinfeld, he fatally attacked his wife and subsequently took his own life, according to reports. He was 53 years old at the time of his death.
