Not every animal called a raptor fits a single scientific definition: the common name crosses taxonomic boundaries. In popular culture, depictions of dinosaur "raptors" have sometimes exaggerated size or pack-hunting behavior; paleontologists caution against projecting modern mammalian behavior onto extinct theropods without supporting evidence. In ornithology, careful classification distinguishes families and orders rather than relying on the loose label "raptor."
