Nematocera is one of the traditional suborders of Diptera (true flies). These insects are often called "long-horned" flies because of their typically long, multi-segmented antennae. The group includes familiar insects such as mosquitoes, many kinds of midges and gnats, and the large, delicate crane flies. Nematocera shows wide ecological diversity and plays important roles in freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems.

Members of Nematocera tend to be slender, fragile-bodied flies with long legs and elongated abdomens.
