Mamostong Kangri

Mamostong Kangri is a 7,516 m peak in the Karakoram range of Jammu and Kashmir (disputed). Also called K35, it was first climbed in 1984 and is one of the world's highest and most remote mountains.

Because of its remoteness and the complexity of approaching the massif, ascents have been relatively infrequent compared with better-known peaks; routes require long glacier travel and reliable high-altitude mountaineering skills.

Mamostong Kangri contributes to regional hydrology through its glaciers, which feed streams and rivers that are part of larger catchments. The Karakoram hosts some of the largest non-polar glaciers in the world; these ice masses are important for water supplies downstream and are monitored for signs of change.
