Klas Ingesson

Playing career and international tournaments

Ingesson took part in several high-profile competitions. He was selected for Sweden's squads at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, the 1992 UEFA European Championship, and the 1994 FIFA World Cup. His presence in midfield contributed to Sweden's strong team performances during that era and he became a familiar figure for supporters and teammates alike.

Known by the nickname "Klabbe," Ingesson combined physical strength with a workmanlike approach to midfield play. Ingesson was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, and after treatment his condition ultimately led to his death on 29 October 2014 at the age of 46 (multiple myeloma). His passing prompted widespread tributes from the football community, which remembered him for his combative midfield play, leadership, and contributions to Swedish football as both player and manager.
