Heinrich Reichert was a Swiss developmental and neurobiologist who used Drosophila to reveal how neural stem cells follow a molecular program to produce diverse brain neurons; professor at Basel.

Heinrich Reichert (1949 – June 13, 2019) was a Swiss scientist known for his work on how neural stem cells generate the variety of cell types in the brain. Trained and based largely at the University of Basel, Reichert combined genetic, cellular and developmental approaches to study the logic by which a small number of stem cells produce many distinct neurons. He is widely cited for demonstrating that neural progenitors progress through an ordered molecular program as they generate neuronal lineages.
