Career and Club Nintendo

In December 1991 Rodríguez launched Club Nintendo, a magazine that grew into a monthly touchstone for gamers across Mexico and Latin America. Club Nintendo published reviews, previews, interviews and strategy content and continued in print for more than two hundred issues, with regular circulation until early 2019. The magazine is widely credited with professionalizing video game journalism in the region by offering localized coverage and cultivating community among readers.

Work in media and dubbing

Beyond print, Rodríguez worked in television and radio and participated in production and screenwriting. He also lent his voice and acting to Spanish-language dubs of international films. His dubbing credits include roles in animated and live-action pictures such as Wreck-It Ralph, Shrek 2, Ghostbusters, Pixels and Night at the Museum 2. These contributions helped bring popular entertainment to Spanish-speaking audiences and showcased his versatility across formats.

Style, influence and audience

Rodríguez was recognized for an accessible, conversational approach to games coverage that emphasized fun, practical tips and clear evaluations. He reached readers who were new to gaming as well as established players, and his editorial direction encouraged reader interaction through letters, contests and community features. The success of Club Nintendo and his multimedia presence helped create a shared vocabulary for gaming culture in Latin America during the 1990s and 2000s.

Illness and passing

In 2019 Rodríguez was diagnosed with lung cancer, a condition that he made public as he underwent treatment. Reporting at the time noted his diagnosis and the response from fans and colleagues. He died on April 11, 2020 in Mexico City at age 59 after complications related to the disease; news coverage referenced the earlier diagnosis (see source), and the gaming community paid tribute to his career.
