Alfred Körner: Austrian striker, Rapid Wien stalwart and World Cup veteran

Early life and club career

Körner was born in Vienna and rose through local football circles to join Rapid Wien. His senior club career stretched from the mid-1940s until 1959, a period in which Rapid were one of Austria’s dominant teams. Körner contributed regularly to that success and was part of multiple title-winning squads, helping to re-establish Austrian club football after the disruptions of the war. International career

On the international stage Körner represented the Austria national team between 1946 and 1958. He earned 47 caps and scored 14 goals, appearing in two World Cups. Playing style and reputation
