Central Ontario is a subregion of Southern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is between Georgian Bay and the eastern end of Lake Ontario. It covers 39,814 square kilometres (15,372 sq mi). It has a population of 1,070,644 according to the Canada 2011 Census. Much of the subregion is rural. The southern part is more densely populated than the northern part. Some of the largest cities include Peterborough, Barrie, and Belleville.
