Joshua David Hawley (born December 31, 1979) is an American public official and member of the Republican Party. He has served as the junior United States Senator of Missouri since taking office in January 2019. Prior to his election to the Senate he was elected and served as the Attorney General of Missouri.

Early life and education

Hawley was born and raised in Lexington, Missouri. He attended Stanford University for his undergraduate studies and earned a law degree from Yale University. After law school he clerked on the U.S. Supreme Court for Chief Justice John Roberts, an experience that marked his early legal formation and brought him into national legal circles.

Hawley worked in both the private sector and in public roles before winning statewide office. He was elected Missouri Attorney General in 2016 and served from 2017 until his resignation to become a senator.
