Claire Conner McCaskill (born July 24, 1953) is an American lawyer and politician affiliated with the Democratic Party. She represented the state of Missouri in the United States Senate from 2007 to 2019. McCaskill was the first woman from Missouri elected to the U.S. Senate. Before her time in the Senate she served statewide as Missouri State Auditor, a role that emphasized fiscal oversight and audits of state programs.
