- Federal Deputy (Brazilian Chamber of Deputies)
- Secretary of Finance for the state of Pernambuco
- Minister of Science and Technology (federal level)

His political image combined a pragmatic managerial style with appeals to modernization and inclusive growth.
2014 presidential campaign and death
In April 2014 Campos became the PSB nominee for Brazil's presidential election and selected environmentalist and former minister Marina Silva as his running mate. During the campaign he presented proposals to renew governance and address social and economic challenges nationally.
On 13 August 2014, Campos died in an airplane crash near the coastal city of Santos in the state of São Paulo. His death was a sudden turning point in that election cycle; the PSB replaced him on its ticket and Marina Silva became the party's presidential candidate. The accident prompted national mourning and debate about aviation safety for political campaigns.
Legacy: Eduardo Campos is remembered for his role in Pernambuco's administration, his attempt to build a broader national platform from a regional power base, and for promoting policy themes that combined social concerns with an emphasis on managerial efficiency. His career also highlights the influence of political families in Brazil and the ways regional leaders can shape national debates.
