Yurik Vardanyan — Soviet–Armenian weightlifting champion

Early life and background

Vardanyan was born in 1956 in Leninakan, then part of the Soviet Union and now known as Gyumri, Armenia; the city's modern name is reflected in many accounts of his origins (Soviet-era birthplace, Gyumri, Armenia).
