Geography and population

The province covers about 755 square kilometres and had an estimated population of around 64,500 people in 2017. Tailevu stretches from low-lying agricultural land near the coast into interior hills and river basins. Coordinates near the provincial centre are 17°50′S 178°30′E (17.833°S, 178.500°E).

Districts and settlements

Tailevu is organised into several traditional districts that combine modern local government with customary leadership. Principal districts include:

History and cultural significance

The province has a mixed economy based on agriculture, small-scale commerce and services centred in Nausori. Fertile coastal plains and river valleys support crop cultivation and subsistence farming, while Nausori provides access to markets and essential services. Transport links connect Tailevu with Suva and other parts of Viti Levu.
