Suffolk Coastal was a local government district in Suffolk, England. The district was created on 1 April 1974 and had its administrative centre at Woodbridge. It included a mix of coastal and inland communities, with notable towns such as Felixstowe.

History and role

The district council was responsible for a range of local services typical of English district authorities, including elements of planning, housing and waste collection. Suffolk Coastal covered both seaside settlements and surrounding rural areas on the east coast of Suffolk.

Reorganisation

In April 2019 the district was abolished and merged with the neighbouring Waveney district to form the new East Suffolk local authority. After this change, the former Suffolk Coastal area has been administered as part of that larger district.
