Stockholm Globe Arena (Globen) — iconic spherical indoor arena

Design and characteristics

The arena is a nearly complete sphere, a shape that makes it distinctive on the Stockholm skyline. Its interior is configurable: seating and floor space are rearranged to suit ice hockey, concerts, exhibitions and other formats. A glass-sided exterior elevator attraction known as SkyView rides along the dome, offering panoramic views of the city.

History and naming

Built in the late 1980s and inaugurated in 1989, the Globe became a focal point for large indoor events in Stockholm. Over time it has been known by different commercial names while remaining popularly called Globen. It is part of a broader entertainment and sports district often referred to as Globe City.

Uses and notable events

The arena is most commonly associated with ice hockey, hosting national team matches and domestic finals, but it also stages international music tours, televised competitions and cultural spectacles. Notable events held at the venue include editions of the Eurovision Song Contest, national music selection shows and major concert residencies.
