Spyro is the protagonist of the eponymous series of video games. They are jump-'n'-run games starring the little purple dragon Spyro, who is always accompanied by the dragonfly Sparx.

While the first three titles developed by Insomniac Games for the PlayStation were published by Sony Computer Entertainment, the rights are now held by Vivendi Universal Interactive. The newer titles are being developed by other companies such as Check Six Studios, Equinox Digital Entertainment, Digital Eclipse Software and Amaze Entertainment.

In April 2018, game developer Toys for Bob announced a remaster version of the original trilogy titled Spyro Reignited Trilogy. This was released by Activision on November 13, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and September 3, 2019 for Nintendo Switch and Windows.

Spyro 4 is scheduled for release in the fall of 2021.

Filming

On October 26, 2007, The Animation Picture Company announced that it had acquired the film rights to Spyro. The film was to be an animated film. The plot would have been based on The Legend of Spyro trilogy, with Daniel and Steven Altiere responsible for the screenplay. The director was Mark A.Z. Dippé, and Elijah Wood (Spyro) and Gary Oldman (Ignitus) were among the voice actors for the English version. In April 2010, however, it was officially declared that the film would not be released.
