Since that pioneering climb, Skyang Kangri has attracted relatively few attempts compared with more famous Karakoram peaks; its technical demands and remote location mean it is less frequently visited than many other seven-thousanders.

Known routes include the east ridge used by the first ascent party; other lines involve steep ice and mixed climbing on unstable snow and seracs. Objective hazards such as avalanches, rockfall and crevasse fields are common. Climbers attempting Skyang Kangri require high-altitude experience, proficiency on mixed terrain and careful expedition planning due to the limited rescue infrastructure in the region.

Though not among the handful of peaks that draw large commercial expeditions, Skyang Kangri is respected in the mountaineering community for its aesthetic ridgelines and technical challenge. Its location in the Karakoram places it within one of the world’s most rugged mountain systems, an area of ongoing scientific interest for glaciology and high-altitude meteorology as well as continued exploration by climbers and researchers.
