Siewert Öholm (1939–2017)

Broadcasting career

Öholm worked for the national public broadcaster Sveriges Radio for many years, formally from 1971 until 2002, where he served as a presenter, interviewer and producer on a variety of programmes. He also contributed to television output for Sveriges Television, appearing on shows that combined interviews, features and panel discussions. His work encompassed both regular programme duties and special broadcasts addressing current events.

Public role and views

Known as a vocal proponent of social conservative positions, Öholm frequently took part in public debates on family policy, ethics and cultural questions. He was regarded within Swedish public life as a commentator who represented a conservative viewpoint in discussions about society and values. Colleagues and audiences experienced him as a persistent presence in debates during the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

Personal life

Öholm was born in Husby. He was married twice and had four sons. One of his children, Oskar Öholm, pursued a political career and served as a member of parliament. Personal details about his private life were occasionally referenced in profiles but he remained best known for his public broadcasting work.

Illness and death

Later in life Öholm became ill and died from liver cancer on 25 January 2017 in Växjö. He was 77. His death was reported across Swedish media and prompted reflections on his long service in public broadcasting and the role he played in national debates.
