Shad Gaspard (January 13, 1981 – May 17, 2020) was an American professional wrestler and performer who became widely known for his time with World Wrestling Entertainment. He later pursued work in film and television as an actor. Gaspard rose to prominence as one half of the tag team Cryme Tyme, teaming with JTG. Born and raised in New York City, Gaspard kept a relatively private family life. He married Siliana Gaspard in 2009 and the couple had a son in April 2010. In March 2011 he was briefly arrested in Columbus, Ohio after an incident described by police as refusing orders while crossing a street; the charges related to jaywalking and resisting arrest were later dropped and he was cleared in July 2011.
Disappearance, death, and reported heroism
In May 2020 Gaspard went missing after being swept away by a strong rip current while swimming near the Venice Beach / Marina del Rey shoreline. Reports from rescuers and media accounts described Gaspard instructing first responders to rescue his son first before trying to reach him; this account led to widespread recognition of his actions that day. He was officially listed as missing on May 17, and his body was recovered on May 20, 2020. He was 39 years old.
