Location and geography

Saatly lies in the lowland plain of central-southern Azerbaijan. Its geographical position is given by the coordinates shown here: 39°27′N 48°28′E. The landscape is largely flat, with soils and climate suited to irrigated agriculture; summers are typically hot and dry and winters are mild to cool.

History and administration

The district was established during the Soviet period in 1943. Since Azerbaijan's independence it has continued as a local administrative unit, governed from the town of Saatly.
