Early life and musical beginnings

Dahlqvist was born in Uddevalla, in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. He grew up during a period when punk, garage rock and classic rock informed many young musicians across Europe. Like many of his contemporaries, he developed an interest in electric guitar and rock songwriting early on, eventually joining local bands and working his way into the national rock scene.

Major bands and career

Dahlqvist rose to wider attention as a member of The Hellacopters, a band associated with the garage-rock revival and high-energy rock'n'roll. He later led his own project under the name Thunder Express, which recorded original material and toured, and subsequently released music in Swedish as Dundertåget. Across these formations he contributed guitar work, backing and occasional lead vocals, and songwriting.

Style and musicianship

His guitar approach combined gritty tones, concise melodic phrasing and rhythmic drive suitable for hard rock and garage-influenced songs. Dahlqvist's playing emphasized hooks and immediacy rather than extended technical virtuosity, helping songs retain a powerful, singable character. He was noted for energetic live performances and a straightforward, rock-focused tone.

Legacy and death

Dahlqvist remained a respected figure in Scandinavian rock; fans and fellow musicians praised his contributions to a wave of bands that kept classic rock influences alive in a modern context. He died on 3 February 2017 at the age of 40. His recordings and live work continue to be celebrated by listeners who follow the bands he helped shape.
