NASA service and spaceflights

Gordon was selected as a NASA astronaut and flew as pilot on Gemini 11, a mission that concentrated on rendezvous, docking and engineering experiments in low Earth orbit. He later served as Command Module Pilot for Apollo 12, the second crewed lunar landing mission. In that role he remained alone in lunar orbit aboard the command module while his crewmates descended to the surface.
