A red brick university (or redbrick university) was one of the nine civic universities founded in the major industrial cities of England. They are founded in the 19th century. These universities were different from other universities as they accepted students regardless of religion or background. They concentrated on imparting to their students "real-world" skills such as engineering and medicine.
