Octopodiformes is the taxonomic grouping of eight-armed cephalopods that lack an external skeletal shell. Members of this clade include the familiar true octopuses and the deep-sea vampire squid, as well as related forms. Molecular studies have clarified relationships within the group, placing true octopuses in the order Octopoda and assigning the deep-sea vampyromorph, commonly called the vampire squid, to a separate lineage within the clade.
