My Gym Partner's a Monkey is an American animated television series about a boy who is transferred from a human school to a school for animals. The show follows his attempts to fit in and the friendships he forms with the animal students.

Premise

The central character, Adam Lyon, is mistakenly enrolled at Charles Darwin Middle School after his surname is read as "lion" because of the way it is written. The school is populated by anthropomorphic animals, and much of the series' humor comes from Adam navigating ordinary middle-school situations while surrounded by animal classmates and teachers.

Main characters

  • Adam Lyon – the human protagonist trying to adjust to life at an animal school.
  • Animal classmates and friends – a varied group who provide comic situations and support as Adam learns to belong.
  • Faculty at Charles Darwin Middle School – animal educators and administrators who run the unusual school.

Production and broadcast

The series was created by Julie McNally Cahill and Timothy Cahill and produced for television by Cartoon Network Studios. It originally aired on Cartoon Network, where it was presented as part of the channel's lineup of animated programs for children and families.

Style and reception

The show combines school-based comedy with absurd, animal-centered gags and situational humor. Viewers and reviewers have noted its playful take on middle-school life by placing a human child in an otherwise animal world.
