Laurens van Ravens — Dutch Football Referee (1922–2018)

Career and approach

Active during a period of tactical and regulatory change in football, van Ravens developed a reputation for firm but measured control of matches. His career spanned club and international fixtures; he balanced the demands of domestic competitions with assignments abroad. Becoming an international referee in 1966 allowed him to represent the Netherlands on the world stage and to apply contemporary standards of officiating at major events.

Notable matches and final appearance

Over more than two decades he officiated a variety of important games. One of his last public appointments was the farewell match for Dutch winger Coen Moulijn: a testimonial held on 9 June 1972 between Feyenoord and a team representing Uruguay. That fixture is often cited as marking the end of his active match refereeing career.
