Hendren completed undergraduate studies at Queen's University and earned graduate degrees from Cornell University. She joined the faculty of McGill University as an assistant professor in 1990 and advanced to full professor in 2001. Her appointment included a Canada Research Chair awarded in 2011, reflecting sustained research leadership. Throughout her career she supervised graduate students, taught both introductory and advanced courses, and served on committees and program committees in the programming languages community.
