Kitt Peak National Observatory

Location and site

The observatory sits on a high, dry mountain ridge southwest of Tucson, Arizona, on land that is part of the traditional territory of the Tohono O'odham people. Its elevation and relatively dark skies historically made it attractive for nighttime and daytime (solar) observations. The facility is situated within the United States network of national observatories and is accessible to researchers and visitors under managed conditions.
