Early life and education

Dehlavi studied music in Tehran and later pursued advanced training with established teachers of his generation. His formal background allowed him to move comfortably between Persian modal systems (dastgāh and maqām-related practices) and Western harmonic and structural methods. This dual orientation shaped his subsequent career as a creator and a teacher.

Career and major works

Dehlavi served for a decade as director and professor at the Persian National Music Conservatory in Tehran, where he influenced a generation of Iranian musicians. His catalogue includes orchestral works, chamber music, vocal pieces, film scores and stage works. A notable composition for young audiences is the 1979 children’s opera Mana and Mani.
