Haghpat Monastery

History

The foundations of Haghpat date to the 10th century and are traditionally associated with patrons of the Bagratid period. Over several centuries the monastery developed as a religious center, housing a community of monks, a scriptorium and a theological school. Its role extended beyond worship to manuscript copying, teaching and regional administration during the Middle Ages.
