Design and characteristics

Originally constructed as an open-air baseball stadium with a continuous seating bowl oriented around the infield, the site emphasized close sightlines and a fan-forward experience common to late 20th-century ballparks. After the Rangers moved to a new retractable-roof facility across the street, the original park underwent structural and surface alterations to host football and soccer. Modifications included reconfiguring seating and sightlines to suit rectangular fields and adapting support spaces for different team and production needs.

History and development

The venue replaced an earlier baseball facility in the area and opened in the mid-1990s to much local attention as the region’s premier baseball address. It remained the Rangers’ home through the 2019 season, at which point the team migrated to a new stadium nearby. Ownership and city officials pursued a reuse strategy to keep the facility active, converting it to accommodate other professional sports leagues and community events rather than demolishing the structure.

Teams, events and uses

Following conversion, the stadium attracted new tenants from professional football and soccer. In early 2020 the revived XFL franchise the Dallas Renegades began playing home games there, and a lower-division soccer side, North Texas SC, also staged matches at the park as part of the U.S. soccer pyramid. The soccer club is affiliated with Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas, which had previously hosted reserve-team play at another local venue in Frisco. Beyond team sports, the site has been used for concerts, community gatherings, and other large-scale events.

Name change and sponsorship

In August 2021 the stadium adopted its current name through a naming-rights agreement with Choctaw Casinos & Resorts, a company operated by a Native American tribe, reflecting a modern trend in venue sponsorship. The new name marks a distinct chapter in the facility’s life as a repurposed urban sports complex.
